COLLEGE ACCESS PROGRAM
The College Access Program (CAP) provides the intensive, individualized advising that closes the gap between college aspirations and college enrollment for first-generation, low-income students.
1-ON-1 ADMISSIONS ADVISING
Each student meets with their staff advisor every other week throughout 12th grade to develop polished application materials. Personalized advising and sustained student/advisor relationships are the core of the CAP model.
COLLEGE KNOWLEDGE WORKSHOPS
During the summer before 12th grade, each newly admitted CAP student completes 15 hours of intensive college preparation workshops including activities focused on college admissions terminology and timelines, college list building, and financial aid
FINANCIAL AID COACHING
Each summer and fall, FGI offers financial aid information workshop sessions for students and families. We encourage students to apply to college that have demonstrated a commitment to affordability for low-income students.
COLLEGE SUCCESS PROGRAM
Participants in the College Success Program (CSP) are college students. With continued support throughout college, our students are shattering the odds.
1-ON-1 SUCCESS COACHING
CSP students receive individualized support from advisors. Online, phone, and in-person advisors contact students 3-5 times/semester, allowing advisors to identify, troubleshoot, and solve problems.
COLLEGE SUCCESS WORKSHOPS
FGI organizes sessions on topics including preparing for college life, resume building, networking, and finding internships and employment. These conferences create an opportunity for CSP students to create a strong peer network and develop leadership skills.
TRANSFER COACHING
Most FGI students enrolling in community college plan to earn a bachelor’s degree. Advisors aid them in choosing transferrable courses and navigating the admissions process. Coaching includes a 2-hour transfer admissions workshop in the fall, 4 hours of transfer application completion sessions, and bi-weekly 1-on-1 coaching.
